Abstract
712,861. Hypodermic syringes. LINDENMANN, E. Feb. 18, 1952, No. 4268/52. Class 81(2) An. injection syringe comprises a transparent rigid barrel in which a piston fits and upper and lower caps made of polymerized plastic, the lower cap and preferably the upper cap being directly connected with the barrel, for instance by a screwthread. The barrel 1 is provided at each end with external screw-threads 2, 3 on which upper and lower closing caps 4, 9 are fitted. The upper closing cap 4 allows for the passage of a rod 5 attached to a plunger 6 having a peripheral groove 8 for the reception of a piston ring. All these parts of the syringe, with the exception of a metal needlereceiving nipple 10 which is moulded into the lower closing member 9, are made from polystyrene or an ester of acrylic acid. In an alternative construction (not shown) the barrel 1 is provided with internal screw-threads with which upper and lower closing members engage. The lower closing member may, however, be immovably sealed to the barrel by a coating of a mixture of monomeric and polymeric liquids.
