Abstract
711,648. Mine roof supports. DIRECTIE VAN DE STAATSMIJNEN IN LIMBURG. March 4, 1952 [March 7, 1951], No. 5647/52. Class 20 (2) A mine roof supporting bar 1, Figs. 4, 5, is widened at the part where it is adapted to be supported by a prop by means of an upper horizontal plate 3 welded' to the bar 1, the plate 3 being adapted to receive the whole of the roof load and the ratio of its length to its width being not greater than 4:1 whilst the' ratio of its width to the horizontal width of the bar 1 exceeds 1.5 : 1. A similar plate 4 is welded to the lower flange of the bar 1 to enable the bar to be used in inverted position, the two plates 3, 4 having side flanges 9 welded together at 10 to form a short box-section which may be strengthened by lateral webs 6, 7. Apertures 8 are provided in the plates 3, 4 to receive projections on the prop head, or if the prop head is of spherical form, part-spherical depressions are formed in the plates. The plates may be detachably secured to the bar.
