711,075. Thrust bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Dec. 17, 1952 [Dec. 21, 1951], No. 29993/51. Class 12(1) A thrust washer or a segment thereof is formed on one or both faces with a surface having at all radii from the centre a circumferential profile approximating to a sine wave, the crests 3 of which are truncated, the wave length at any radius being from one-eighth to one-quarter of the circumference, the depth from the truncated crest to the trough of the wave form being from 0.0005 inch to 0.005 inch per inch diameter, and the circumferential extent of the truncation being from one-tenth to one-quarter of that wave length. The washer may have a backing of steel and a facing of white metal, or if double-sided, it may comprise an interlayer of steel or bronze between bearing metal layers. Felt pads to assist lubrication may be positioned in holes in the truncations. The sinusoidal corrugations may be pressed out at 150‹C by dies, and then ground flat on its back.
