1,201,206. Fluid bearings. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 31 May, 1968 [2 June, 1967], No. 25687/67. Heading F2A. One bearing surface 7 of a hydrodynamic bearing is provided with a plurality of pads 8, having a clearance from the other bearing surface 3, each pad having a recess on the side remote from its bearing surface which communicates with the end 19 of the pad which is encountered first by the surface 3 on relative rotation of the members, thereby reducing the thickness of the pad so that it can bend under the influence of fluid pressures generated by the relative rotation of the members, the clearance between the bearing surface and the pads being convergent in the direction of relative rotation.
