Abstract

711,019. Collapsible caravans. STAATS, J. D. Sept. 26, 1952 [Oct. 2, 1951], No. 24168/52. Class 108(1). A collapsible caravan, Figs. 1, 2, comprises a body portion having sides 1, hinged end walls 3, 4, and an overall cover 2 hinged to the wall 4, the cover 2, wall 4 and the base of the body being locked together by long bolts 10 to lie in the same plane when the caravan is expanded. A canvas or plastic &c. tent cloth 14 provided with a flap door (not shown) may be supported by hoops 6, 7 and 8 as shown. The hoop 8 is adapted to stretch the cloth by positioning a button on the hoop, Fig. 4, between any two of the teeth of a rack 9, or the hoop may be pressed against the cloth by a spring 22, Fig. 5, housed in a cylinder 21 hinged on a lug 9a to the cover 2. Supports 5 may be rigid with, or hinged to lie flat upon, the cover 2 in the caravan collapsed position. The tent cloth with mattresses &c. is stowed between the sides 1 on top of drawers and cupboards, which drawers are readily accessible from the outside by hinging the wall 3 downwardly.
