Abstract

710,359. Circular looms; beat-up motions; riving shuttles. QUALITEX-SOC. DUNOD & CIE. July 27, 1951 [July 27, 1950], No. 17819/51. Class 142(2) Beat-up motion, Fig. 10. The weft 69 is beaten-up by blades 180 housed in slots in a ring 175 and pivoted about a rod 176, each blade having three teeth 180b; wheels 179, following the shuttles round the loom, rock the blades in succession against the action of springs 177. Driving shuttles, Fig. 4. Revolving arms 23 carry coils 75 energized by short pulses produced by discharging a condenser charged to 2,000 volts. Each' shuttle has armatures 77, which are conductive but non- magnetic (e.g. aluminium), and an armature 76, which is magnetic but relatively non-conductive (e.g. laminated iron). The spacing of the coils and armatures is such that attraction forces having radial and tangential components cccur on the armatures 77, and similar repulsion forces occur on the armature 76. When the shuttle is symmetrically disposed with respect to the arm 73 (as shown), the forces balance out; when the loom is running, friction causes the shuttle to lag, whereupon the radial forces still balance, but a resultant tangential force remains to propel the shuttles. Shuttle, Fig. 1. In addition to armatures on its inner side (described above) the shuttle has wheels 108b on its outer side which run against a ring 108c surrounding the reed 108a. A bobbin in a case 68 is located by a spring finger 100 engaging one of a number of grooves 100a. The weft is taken through the bore of the bobbin and laid near the apex of the shed by a tube 71.
