[Class 142 (ii)] The shuttles 3 are driven by a moving magnetic field generated by a stator 1 provided with a polyphase or rotary field winding 2, a synchronizing device being used comprising iron laminated stops 4 provided in front of each shuttle. These stops are spaced apart by attachment to the arms 9 of a rotor 8, which is positively and mechanically connected to all the other moving parts of the loom. If a shuttle should overtake a stop, it is diverted thereby radially into contact with a fixed guide ring 5, and braked until its speed resumes normal value. Rollers 7, 7a are provided on the stops or shuttles or both to facilitate the passage of warp threads between them. The rotor 8 actuates the beat-up blades and may be driven from a shaft 11 actuated by a variable speed motor 12. This shaft may actuate apparatus 14 for moving the healds and warp regulators. The stops 4 may serve to drive the rotor &c., and the motor 12 be dispensed with and be replaced by a mechanical or electrical regulator in order to allow of regulating the working speed or the slip in relation to the rotary field. The loom may be rotated backwards by a hand wheel 16 if the weft breaks, the winding 2 being then disconnected from the mains, the stops carrying round the shuttles by means of their thickened ends.
