Abstract

708,692. Bolt-firing guns. NASCHER, R., [trading as HAMMERWERK R. NASCHER], April 22, 1952 [April 27, 1951; Sept. 28, 1951; Jan. 16, 1952], No. 10064/52. Class 119 Relates to guns for firing nails bolts or the like into masonry or steel, of the kind having a barrel 5 detachable from the firing lock 7 for loading, the lock housing 2 being slidable forwardly on the barrel for cocking against the action of a spring 13 when the barrel is pressed against the work According to the invention the lock comprises a body having an axial bore for the passage of the shank 14 of the firing pin, and at a position remote from the barrel has a transverse passage for a slidable safety device 8, the latter being movable from a position in which a bore therein is in line with the bore of the lock to permit firing and to another position in which it blocks the passage of the shank 14 In the construction shown the device 8 has a nose 11 which, when the member 2 is depressed to compress the spring 13 and a firing spring 16, is engaged by a sleeve 13 and thereby moved laterally against the action of a leaf spring 10 to move the device 8 from the safety to the firing position. Prior to the firing operation the barrel 5 and with it the lock 7 must be unscrewed slightly to bring a grub screw 20 in the sleeve 2 into a longitudinal part of a bayonet type slot in the lock 7, thus permitting the necessary relative longitudinal movements of the parts 2 and 5. To prevent the scattering of small particles of mortar or other substances, the barrel has a funnelshaped attachment 23 formed with a large number of small holes 24. In modifications, Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), a press button is fitted to the tube 2 and must be pressed by hand to move the safety device to the firing position. In Fig. 6 the barrel is secured to the lock by balls as distinct from being screwed to the lock as in the case of the construction described above.
