Abstract

708,428. Supporting brackets. STEPHENSON. N. April 4, 1952 [Jan. 4, 1951], No. 345/51. Class 52(5) A supporting bracket comprises a channelled upright member 1 with a series of grooves 5 in the side faces of the channel, the grooves extending downwardly from the mouth of the channel and' being engaged by corresponding ribs 11 on the bearer 9 of a bracket 10. The bottom of the channel may form an abutment for the inner face of the bearer or the bearer may b provided with a flange to engage the outer edge of the upright'member. In a modification the upright is provided with a ribbed projecting fillet and the bearer is formed with grooves so that in each case the bearer is engaged with the support member by sliding it rearwardly and downwardly. The upright may take the form of a pillar 21, Fig. 5, having its sides ribbed or grooved in chevron fashion so brackets may project from all sides. The chevron pattern may be replaced by a diamond pattern. To support a shelf four grooved uprights 38 are provided on each of which is mounted a bearer member. A shelf 42 is then rested on the four bearers.
