708,382. Pipe couplings. FAWICK, T. L. March 7, 1952 [March 20, 1951], No. 5980/52. Class 99 (1). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIV] An automatic shut-off hose coupling for a fluid pressure brake system comprises male and female members 90 and 83 normally locked in engagement by balls 88. To release the coupling, sleeve 84 is slid forward against spring 86 so that the balls 88 are able to move outwardly into a space formed between the back edge of sleeve 84 and the retaining snap ring 85. When the two ends of the coupling are then separated, valves 83a and 90a may be advanced by springs 83b and 90b on to conical seats and thus seal each hose end automatically.
