708,306. Sheet separators. SAPAL SOC. ANON DES PLIEUSES AUTOMATIQUES. Oct. 8, 1951 [Nov. 8, 1950], No. 23383/51. Class 100 (1) A device for separating sheets such as labels from a pile 1, Figs. 5, 6, which is supported on a table 2 having an obliquely cut corner leaving one comer of the pile overhanging, comprises a suction member 5 mounted under the overhanging part so as to reciprocate vertically and also to oscillate. The suction member first rises and tilts so as to lift the corner of the pile as shown in Fig. 5. The suction is then applied and the member 5 tilts in the opposite direction to bend down the corner of the bottom sheet as shown in Fig. 6. A separating blade then passes between the bottom sheet and the rest of the pile to support the pile while the separated bottom sheet is taken away by means not described. Figs. 1 and 3 show the mounting arrangement of the suction member 5. It is mounted at the free end of a bent pipe 7 carried on a lever 8 pivoted at 9 to a bracket 13 and having a toothed quadrant 10 engageable with a rack 11. The bracket 13 is attached to a sleeve 12 and moved up and down by a lever 15 co-operating with a cam. The rack 11 is moved up and down by a lever 19 also actuated by a cam. The suction member 5 is formed with a vane 6 of part-circular shape and arranged so that one corner 22 is in line with the axis of oscillation of the lever 8 as shown in Fig. 3.
