Abstract
292,423. Aldrich, L. K. Dec. 21, 1927. Sheet-separators; pile supports.-In connection with an automatic sheet-feeding machine in which the top sheet is separated and forwarded by means of a suction separator 4, or in any other manner, a sheet-holding device is provided for preventing double feed and to prevent the sheet below the top one from creeping towards the front of the pile support. The sheet-holding device is preferably a tapered rubber member 15 adjustably secured in an L-shaped arm 13 pivoted at 11 in a support. 6 carried by a rod 8 mounted in the end of a lever which is reciprocated vertically or oscillated about a horizontal axis by a part of the feeding-machine, such as the lever which operates the table-raising gear. In the downward movement of the support 6, the holder 15 engages the second sheet after the top one has moved past it, as shown in Fig. 2, and then the pivoted arm 13 moves rearwardly so that, as shown in Fig. 3, the second sheet is pressed against the rear wall 5 of the pile support, which thus serves to keep the top sheet registered accurately and prevents creeping of the sheets. A stop 20 limits the return movement of the arm 13.
