Abstract
726,930. Feeding sheets. GERICKE, E. June 11, 1952 [Oct. 5, 1951], No. 14753/52. Class 100 (1). Pile tables and supports; sheet separators.- A device for the automatic separation of the uppermost sheet of paper from a pile, in which, at the front edge of the pile, one or more hooks are provided which resiliently press the uppermost sheet on to the pile, and over which the sheet is pushed forwardly by a suction device after it has been separated from the hooks by movement in a rearward direction, is characterized in that prior to the rearward separation of the uppermost sheet the hooks are raised, and before the start of the subsequent movement of the sheet are again returned to the pile so that the sheet can be slidingly moved over the hooks. As shown, an inclined pile of sheets 1 rests with its front edge against a pile wall 2, suckers 3 being provided for grasping the uppermost sheet and pulling it back from beneath the hooks 5 in the direction of the arrow R. The hooks are raised to release the sheet by means of a cam disc 7 which operates a lever having arms 11, 24 and 13, the arm 24 being adapted to engage a projection 23 of the hooks 5 to raise it against the action of a spring 6. As soon as the sucker has removed the top sheet 4 the hooks 5 are lowered and feeding in the direction of the arrow V, to grippers 19, takes place. The height of the pile is maintained at a constant level by a pawl and ratchet mechanism 10 operated by the action of a lever 9 and cam 8. When the pile is at a correct level the action of the pawl mechanism 10 is suspended by the engagement of the arm 13 with a stop 22 on the lever 9. As soon as the height of the pile 1 has become low enough for a projection 12 fixed on the hook 5 to prevent the lever carrying the arms 11 from following the cam 7, the arm 13 is held away from the stop 22, thereby allowing the lever 9 to follow the cam 8 and raise the pile step-by-step until the projection 12 is again disengaged from the arm 11.
