Abstract
707,257. Filters. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Nov. 29, 1951 [Dec. 6, 1950], No. 28009/51. Class 46 A candle filter particularly for filtering various spinning solutions comprises a core 10, a base 12 joined to one end of the core and provided with a swivel connection 22, a conical-shaped extension 11 at the other end of the core, a central duct 21 in the core and base extending from the swivel connection to a point before the commencement of the conical-shaped extension, a plurality of transverse vents 23 in the core communicating with the central duct 21 and a casing 17 surrounding the core. The portion 28 of the casing 17 has a similar shape to the conical extension 11 which it surrounds and the upper portion 32 of the casing screwthreadedly engages the base 12, the core 10 being similarly secured to the base. A series of annular recessions 13 such as a plurality of annular grooves or a screw thread are formed in the exterior surfaces of the core, the ribs thereof being depressed to form passageways 25 extending along the core surface at least to the point where the lowest vent 23 appears, the number of passageways 25 corresponding to the number of vents 23. The filter medium 18 consisting of two or three wraps of a cotton batting followed by a sheath of fabric material is held in place by a cord 27 at each end surrounding annular grooves 26 in the core 10.
