Class 80 (4) A device for ensuring the rotation of a synchronous electric motor in one direction only comprises a bush 3 with an eccentric bearing surface 4 about an axis X secured to the shaft 2 of the motor 1 of the type used in elec-. tric clocks. Supported on the surface 4 is a member 5 having 180 degrees of lost motion therewith controlled by a pin 8 co-operating with a stepped plate 7 secured to the bush 3. A light frictional drag is applied to the outer surface 6 of the member 5 by means of a U-shaped member 9 secured to a fixed pin 10 so that according to the direction in which the motor is started the pin 8 of member 5 moves against one or the other of the shoulders of the stepped plate 7 and assumes a position at a greater or lesser radius with respect to the shaft 2. In the position of greater radius the pin 8 engages an arm 13 also secured to fixed pin 10 so that rotation in that direction is prevented and an impulse given to reverse the rotation. With the pin 8 in the lesser radius position describing a circle 11 it clears the stop arm 13 and free rotation in the corresponding direction is permitted.
