Abstract

1410016 Windscreen wiper drive device DUNLOP Ltd 4 Dec 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 58711/71 Heading A4F [Also in Division F2 and H1] In a windscreen wiper drive device, continuous rotary motion is converted to oscillatory motion by a system of rotary cranks. An annular member 2 is continuously rotated about a fixed axis W within bearing 3 by an electric motor (not shown) via a flexible drive and worm gear 6. An eccentric member 8 is mounted within member 2 and rotates about a movable axis X which is parallel to axis W and displaced therefrom by a fixed distance. A spigot 10 on the member 8 engages in a socket 11 in output shaft 12 which is rotatable about a fixed axis Y, the shaft 12 projecting from housing 1, being coupled to associated windscreen wiper arm or arms. The spigot 10 and socket 11 are arranged for relative rotation about a movable axis Z. Thus the continuous rotation of axis X about axis W causes oscillatory angular displacement of axis Z about axis Y through an angle (32 degrees) Fig.2 (not shown), which is dependent on the inter-relationship between axes W, X, Y and Z. A parking mechanism for the wiper comprises a reed 21 and a permanent magnet 17 mounted on the housing 1. A ferrous shield 22 on the non- ferrous member 2 shields, once each revolution, the reed 21 from the magnet 17. When a control switch (not shown) is in its "off" position power is supplied to the motor via the reed, the device coming to rest on the next occasion that the shield 22 comes between the reed 21 and the magnet 17.
