Abstract
706,954. Freight carrying aircraft. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU NORD. Jan. 31, 1952 [Feb. 16, 1951], No. 2651/52. Class 4 An aircraft of the twin boom type adapted for the carrying and parachuting of freight in flight, has the fuselage 6, located between the booms, open at the rear, being truncated along a substantially vertical transverse plane. The upper part of the fuselage is extended by a canopy 9 continuing the aerodynamic form of the fuselage, the lower lateral edges of the canopy being connected to the rear lateral edges 14 of the fuselage by two deflectors 15, whose width decreases from top to bottom, to substantially a point at 16 on the lower edge of the fuselage. A pulley block 19, running on a rail 18 may be provided to facilitate loading and ramps 20 may be used, which may also close the opening in the fuselage when not in use. Clam doors 26 pivoted on to deflectors 15 at 28 may be provided as shown in Fig. 5, in which case their lower portions 29 may be pivoted at 30 so as to swing upwards against the rest of the door to positions indicated at 29a to give access to the whole of the fuselage width. A device for locking the doors in the open position is shown in Fig. 7. The bolt 35 is urged upward by spring 37. When the doors are opened, the ramp 39 of striking plate 38 forces the bolt downwards until it reaches bolt hole 40 when the spring urges the bolt into the locking position. Release is effected by pulling on handle 36.
