Abstract

706,819. Coating with metal. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 2, 1952 [April 2, 1951], No. 8394/52. Class 82 (2) [Also in Groups XXII and XL (b)] A glass or ceramic window 9 for an electromagnetic waveguide is coated with metal on its edges and margins and then brazed to a frame 3. The metal. lizing may be done by the manganese-molybdenum process described in Specification 656,724. Alternatively the plate may be painted with powdered titanium hydride in a suitable carrier, a body of solder being placed in position to flow into contact with the metallized surface when melted. After assembly of the parts, the plate is heated in a vacuum to a temperature sufficient to dissociate the hydride and melt the solder; the metallizing and soldering being thus accomplished in one operation.
