Class 40 (6) As shown an alternating control voltage is applied to the grid of a thermionic valve V1, the output of which is applied to the grid of a thermionic valve V2 the anode circuit of which includes a relay L controlling the operation of a regulator (not shown) either directly or through a servomotor. The anode circuit of valve V2 is supplied from an A.C. source AC2 through a transformer T2 and the cathode of valve V2 is biased from an A.C. source AC1 through a transformer T1 which also supplies the valve heaters. The phase of the bias is such that valve V2 is cut off in the absence of a signal applied to its grid, e.g. in the event of a fault.
