705,425. Take-up motions; cloth rolls. HALES, H. G., BROWN, W., and FROST, A. Aug. 11, 1952 [Aug. 10, 1951], No. 18837/51. Class 142(2) Take-up motion. The fabric passes round a sand roll B, against which it is pressed by a nip roll B<SP>1</SP> and.is wound on a cloth roll A of small diameter driven by a pawl and ratchet c, C. The pawl is actuated by the slay F or other moving part through a spring E<SP>1</SP> disposed between a bracket f and a collar e on a rod E; the rod passes freely through the bracket and carriers a collar (not shown) so that backward strokes of the slay cause the pawl to ride over the teeth of the ratchet wheel. On a forward stroke, the cloth roll is turned or, if the tension of the fabric is sufficiently high, the spring E<SP>2</SP> is compressed without operating the pawl. Reverse rotation of the cloth roll is prevented by one or more pawls 2 or by a brake band or brake blocks encircling a brake drum attached to the ratchet wheel. Cloth roll. One end of the cloth roll A is bifurcated to embrace a pin a<SP>1</SP> in the hub of the ratchet wheel. The bearing for the other end of the roll has a number of holes into one of which a pin is inserted to prevent endwise movement of the roll; by removing the pin, the cloth roll can be slid out of the ratchet wheel and removed from the loom.
