705,146. Distilling carbonaceous material. STEINKOHLEN-ELEKTRIZITAET AKT.-GES. Aug. 18, 1952 [Aug. 16, 1951], No. 20709/52. Class 55 (1) Coal &c. is pneumatically moved through a pipe system externally heated by hot combustion gases at about 800‹-1,000‹ C. and located in a steam boiler furnace. Or the material may be heated in the pipe system to a low distillation temperature and afterwards in a separate internally heated retort to a higher temperature. A vertical pipe system 3 through which extraneous material is conveyed by gases whilst subjected to distillation is located in the stack 2 of a steam boiler combustion chamber 6, the flow of furnace gases over the system or over air and water preheaters situated on either side, being controlled by valves 11. Fuel from a bin 5 is fed into a line 14 leading to the pipe system by a stream of purified gas supplied to an injector 15, another supply passing through an injector 17 fed with combustion air and a line 9 to the furnace, the proportions being regulated by a distributer 19. Coked material is discharged to a separator 7 and thence to a bin 8 from which a valved supply is admitted to line 9. A burner 26 near the fuel inlet into the combustion chamber is supplied with purified gas and air to facilitate ignition of the fuel. A normally closed branch 13 from the outlet line 22 from the pipe system leads to an internally heated retort for further distillation at higher temperature.
