Abstract
Organic phosphorus compounds are made by reacting a dialkylamino-dihalogen phosphoric oxide and a bis-(dialkylamino) halogen phosphoric oxide at a raised temperature in the presence of an inorganic alkaline condensing agent. Major constituents of the mixture of products obtained are bis (bis dialkylamino) phosphorus anhydrides and triphosphoric pentadialkylamides. Alkali metal hydroxides e.g. those of sodium and potassium, and anhydrous potassium carbonate are mentioned as condensing agents. Advantageously water is removed from the reaction as formed, e.g. by the use of a water-entrainer such as toluene. In Examples dimethylamino dichlorophosphoric oxide and bis (dimethylamino)-chloro-phosphoric oxide are reacted in the presence of (1) sodium hydroxide and toluene, (2) potassium hydroxide and toluene and (3) potassium hydroxide and carbon tetrachloride, water being removed by azeotropic distillation, to yield mixtures of bis (bisdimethylamino) phosphorus anhydride and triphosphoric pentadimethylamide. The products have insecticidal properties. Bis (dimethylamino)-chlorophosphoric oxide may be made by treating anhydrous dimethylamine with phosphorus oxychloride in an organic solvent. Dimethylamino - dichlorophosphoric oxide is made by treating dimethylamine hydrochloride (a by-product in the production of the phosphoric oxide, with phosphorus oxychloride.
