Abstract
703,513. Ships' propellers. ENGLESSON, J. E. Dec. 17, 1951 [Dec. 27, 1950], No. 29504/51. Class 114 [Also in Group XXV] Screwed joints, in the hubs of ships' propellers having adjustable blades and in which at least one member of the joint is made of stainless steel, have the threads and other sliding bearing surfaces given a thin coating of metal having better sliding properties, such as copper or silver, or alloys consisting mainly of these, in order to prevent seizing. When copper is used the coating may be applied electrolytically and should not exceed 0.1 mm. in thickness 0.01 mm. being a preferable value. Where the joints are exposed to salt water they are sealed to prevent the water from contacting the coated surfaces. The sealing may be effected by coating the joint with thick oil, pitch, putty, red lead, or oil paint.
