Abstract
Copper phthalocyanine is produced in a non-crystallizing, non-flocculating form by adding it to trichlorbenzene, removing all water (e.g. by heating to 100 DEG C under vacuum), adding anhydrous aluminium chloride, heating to about 180 DEG C, filtering, and removing the trichlorbenzene and excess aluminium chloride. The trichlorbenzene may be removed by steam distillation and the excess aluminium chloride by boiling with sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid solution. A quantity of chlorine, 1-2 per cent of the weight of pigment, may be passed in during the heating, and the product may be subjected to the usual aftertreatments, e.g. with sulphuric acid. Examples of the above procedure are given.
