Abstract

In a coating composition the essential film-forming constituents are composed of from 10 to 90 per cent. by weight of one or more vegetable drying oils or drying oil modified alkyd resins and correspondingly from 90 to 10 per cent. of a copolymer of from 35 to 75 per cent. vinyl chloride and from 65 to 25 per cent. of vinylidene chloride homogeneously dispersed in the oil, the said copolymer having a viscosity rating (determined on a 2 per cent. solution in orthodichlorobenzene at 120 DEG C.) of from 0.9 to 1.4 centipoises. The drying oil may be soyabean, linseed, tung, oiticica or perilla oil. The above composition may be made by the methods described in Specifications 681,505 and 703,443, and the final coating compositions may include methyl ethyl ketone, a hydrocarbon solvent such as toluene, xylene or petroleum naphtha, cobalt and lead naphthenates and titanium dioxide.
