Cold-resistant paint Under certain circumstances, for example in aircraft construction,
can the use of paints, be it z. B. as an anti-corrosion paint, as an impregnating varnish
or as an insulating varnish for electrical equipment, for purposes
in which they are exposed to particularly low temperatures down to -5o ° and lower
will. The usual paints are more or less suitable for such a use
not suitable. When exposed to low temperatures, they become brittle and cracked
and, if the temperature drops further, they even tend to come off the surface
to peel off. The surprising finding has now been made that varnishes that
are essentially made of oil-reactive resins and wood oil, low temperatures
of at least -5o ° and lower are able to withstand without suffering damage
while also maintaining sufficient elasticity.
B. Solventnaphtha, vermischt
werden. An oil-reactive resin is to be understood as meaning a resin in which a chemical reaction takes place with the added oil. Such oil-reactive resins and also synthetic resins modified with vegetable oils are known per se. Wood oil is also quite common as a modifier for paints. So far DAB paints but has not been detected, the above-mentioned composition low temperatures of at least -5o ° C and can be exposed deep without damage One such suitable for use at low temperatures coating consists for example of 3o parts of tung oil and 1 5 parts of an alkyl phenol formaldehyde Resin, which is boiled together and calculated with the required usual drying agents, for example a o, o2% @ cobalt, o, o20 / m manganese and o, 50 / @ lead-containing mixture on the wood oil content, and with solvents, z. B. Solvent naphtha, are mixed.
In addition to the wood oil, other oils, e.g. B.
Linseed oil to be added to the varnish. It is also possible to use the
Mixing varnish made with oil-reactive resins and wood oil with another varnish,
to adapt it to the respective conditions of use. The mixing ratio
can fluctuate within wide limits and is just like the choice of the
varnish to be mixed according to the type of use of the varnish and according to the deepest
Temperatures to which it can be exposed. For example, the above
The varnish described for impregnation purposes is mixed with a varnish in the ratio i: i,
that of 90 parts of linseed oil, 10 parts of wood oil, 15 parts of a synthetic resin, 5 parts
Paraffin and the usual drying agents and solvents.
