Abstract

703,376. Opening fibrous material. BISINGER, B. Oct. 2, 1951, No. 22906/51. Class 120(1) Apparatus for opening and ' cleaning fibrous material comprises a feed plate and feed roller for feeding the material to an opening cylinder, and a plurality of supply, ducts for sucking air on to the surface of the cylinder on the side facing the feed plate, the cylinder being provided with needles or pins extending radially from its surface. As shown, air is supplied beneath the feed table 20 through a number: of adjacent ducts 21 separated by partitions, the feed opening of each duct being controlled by a pivoted flap 22. Air ducts 23 opening behind the grid bars 19 are similarly controlled by flaps 24. The forward end of the feed table 20. is extended downwardly to form a beak. the space between the beak and cylinder 8 diminishing in the direction of movement of the cylinder; the surface of the beak which faces the cylinder is provided with channels 23 of triangular section which increase in depth in the downward direction so that the bases of the channels lie on an arc concentric with the cylinder. The radiallydisposed needles on the cylinder have their ends flattened off at the front.
