Abstract

702,345. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 28, 1952 [May 31, 1951], No. 12806/51. Addition to 697,161. Class 40 (2). A modification of the apparatus described in the parent Specification comprises the adaption of the apparatus for magnetic recording and reproduction of sound wherein an electromagnet 205 is supported by the structure 34 on which the tracking member 38 is supported, such that when the structure is in the operative position, said electromagnet can be utilised to effect erasure of signals on the record. The electromagnet is arranged to be energised by an alternating current by means of a switch 207 which is prevented from unintentional operation by means of a bellcrank 209 which can only permit the movement of the dolly 208 when moved out of its intercepting position by manual pressure on the platform 210. Release of pressure on platform 210 causes the switch 207 to be restored to the OFF position. The electromagnet is designed to produce a field radially of the disc record so that erasure is substantially effected by one revolution of the turntable. The arm is fitted with a spring 201 acting one side or other of a dead centre to cause pressure of the structure down towards the record or retains the structure in an upward position.
