Abstract

702,255. Mixed grain colour photographic emulsions. KODAK, Ltd. Oct. 29, 1949 [Oct. 30, 1948], No. 18311/52. Divided out of 702,200. Class 98(2) Two sets of silver halide grains of substantially the same inherent speed to white light are respectively sensitized to different regions, as in the red and green, of the spectrum by dyes each having two different spectral absorptions and being capable of conferring two different sensitizing maxima on silver halide grains when used in a high and a low concentration, the dyes being used in high concentrations whereby diffusion of each dye from the grains intended to be sensitized to grains not intended to be sensitized thereby sensitizes the latter at the other sensitizing maximum. A gelatin layer containing such sensitized grains may be overcoated with a layer containing high contrast blue sensitive silver halide grains and a removable yellow dye, or the emulsion itself may contain a set of such blue sensitive grains with omission of the yellow filter dye. In four examples the emulsions are the same as those described in the original Specification 702,200. Other suitable sensitizing dyes are described with reference to Specifications 378,870, [Group IV], 378,885; 380,140, 408,277, [both in Group IV], 496,116, 540,444 and 592,267.
