701,476. Vibrators. FRUNGEL, F. Nov. 13, 1951 [Nov. 21, 1950], No. 26509/51. Class 13. [Also in Group VIII] Apparatus for washing fibrous materials, tanning leather, or accelerating the treatment of fibrous materials by suitable agents in solution comprises a vibratory body 3 resiliently mounted substantially at the central axis of a cylindrical container 1 and a rotary unbalanced mass within the body 3 adapted to impart radially directed vibratory forces through the body 3 into the work load, the vibratory forces changing direction continuously in synchronism with the rotational speed of the unbalanced mass. In the example shown in Fig. 1 an electric motor 5 has weights 6 mounted eccentrically on both ends of its shaft 7 and is contained in a waterproof cylindrical housing 8 mounted on springs or rubber cushions on a pedestal 4. In Fig 2 (not shown) the motor is mounted beneath the container and is drivingly connected through bevel gearing with a shaft carrying eccentric weights and rotatable in the housing 8. An automatic temperature control may be provided for shutting off the vibrator when a pre-set temperature is reached. A double-walled container 1 may be used, the space between the walls being filled with sound-absorbing material such as cork or a porous plastic material.
