Abstract
700,742. Fluid-actuated valves. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN. Oct. 27, 1949 [Nov. 1, 1948], No. 27582/49. Class 135 A flow governing valve comprises a casing 1, Fig. 1, with an inlet 2, an outlet 3 and an intermediate partition 6 having a port 7 which slides a tube 9 cooperating with a seat 16 on the outlet side of the partition and being connected to a ported disc 11 on the inlet side. The tube 9 has, adjacent the seat, either a reduced end 37 or an enlarged end 38 whereby the flow through the valve is decreased or increased respectively, with an increased pressure drop across the valve, i.e., a decreased counter-pressure in the outlet. With a plain end on the tube, the valve would maintain a constant flow, Q, as shown by line P-Y, Fig. 2. The end 37 causes flow to be reduced along line P-Y' towards a predetermined minimum value Q' with increasing pressure drop by causing tube 9 to move towards the seat. The end 38 causes flow to be increased along line P-Y" towards a predetermined maximum value Q" with increasing pressure drop by causing tube 9 to move away from the seat. The values Q<SP>1</SP> and Q" are determined by the dimensions of ends 37 and 38. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a valve in which the tube is parallel throughout its length ; a modification in which the disc 11 slides over a fixed tube containing a butterfly valve by which the rate of flow may be varied; a further modification in which the tube 9, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), is guided by a rod 27 carrying a disc 11a, weights 36 being applied to the rod to vary the rate of flow ; an arrangement in which the tube is partly counter-balanced by a weighted arm; and another arrangement in which the tube 9, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), is suspended horizontally by links 45, 46 and is urged away. from the seat 16 by a weight 52. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
