Abstract

Artificial fibres made of aromatic polyesters, e.g., polyethylene terephthalate, are dyed by treating them with an aqueous dispersion of an un-reduced vat dyestuff at a superatmospheric pressure and at a temperature above 100 DEG C. One or more surface active substances or one or more swelling agents for the polyester may be added to the dyebath. In an example, polyethylene terephthalate yarn is dyed with an aqueous dispersion of Caledon Red Violet 2RN at 162 DEG C. and 80 p.s.i. pressure. According to the Provisional Specification, fibres of other synthetic polymeric materials, e.g., polyamides, may be similarly dyed. Specification 609,943 is referred to.
