Abstract

A hair pomade contains extracts or aqueous mashes of common nettles, burdock, yellow gentian and St. John's wort incorporated in an animal fat, preferably beef fat. Roots, stems and leaves (except burdock) of new shoots are (a) ground with water and heated at 75 to 95 DEG C for 90 to 140 minutes (depending on condition of plants) to form a mash, (b) digested with water for 72 hours at 95 DEG C, filtered and the extract so formed concentrated, in vacuo if desired. The pomade may contain 70 to 72 per cent extract, or 2 to 15 parts of mash (containing 95 to 99 per cent solids) to 10 parts of beef fat. An emulsifier may be present. Perfumes such as pine oil and conifer oil may be present.
