Abstract

699,995. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 20, 1951 [Dec. 30, 1950], No. 29875/51. Class 38 (ii). [Also in Group XL (c). In a circuit for discriminating against out-ofphase components in an A.C. signal of the same frequency as an A.C. reference voltage a capacitor is charged to a D.C. potential substantially proportional to the peak value of the in-phase component or a modulator or chopper produces an A.C. voltage in phase with the reference voltage. At the positive peak of the line voltage, rectifiers 5, 6, 7, 8, Fig. 1, conduct to cause a momentary connection to exist between input terminal 1 and. capacitor 15 so that the potential appearing on the capacitor is equal to the peak value of the in-phase component. The time constant of the network 11, 12 is such that conduction only occurs over a short period. Rectifiers 23, 25 conduct on alternate half-cycles to cause the point 18 to be near earth potential so that the D.C. potential on the capacitor 15 applied. over high resistor 16 appears as a square wave at the output terminals 29, 30.
