Abstract
699,296. Automatic-feed weighers. FLETCHER & CO., Ltd.. G. June 15, 1951 [Aug. 2, 1950]. No. 19258/50. Class 143. [Also in Group XXXII] In an automatic weighing scale for liquids such as sugar liquors in which the opening and closing of a supply valve 18 to the weigh tank 11 and a discharge valve 19 therefrom are effected by the up and down movement of the weigh tank, supported at one end of a counterweighted main weigh beam 16, the valves 18, 19 are of the lift type and caused to move through a greater vertical distance than the rise or drop of the weigh tank by linkage as shown fulcrummed about fixed points 25, 33 in the scale framework and connected to the weigh tank and valves. The linkage may have slotted couplings to permit the valves to seat properly on their bases. The supply valve 18 is located at the base of a supply tank 10 mounted on the framework above the weigh tank 11 and has a surrounding screen 21 with serrated lower edge acting as a dribble valve operated through parallel motion linkage from a float 20 when the weigh tank is nearly full. The weigh beam 16 is fulcrummed about knife edges 69 supported on spaced seatings and is operatively connected to a counterbalanced buffer lever 58 connected to a double acting buffer piston 55 sliding in a hydraulic buffer 38. The buffer lever 58 is pivoted about a fulcrum pin with axis colinear with and intermediately located between the main beam knife edges 69 and is connected to the main beam 16 by an end extension 582 having roller abutments 64 embracing opposite sides of the weigh beam 16 so that the latter can move without buffer restrain over part of its traverse. The total traverse is limited by adjustable screw-threaded stops 71a locked in position by set screws engaging axially extending V-notches in the heads of the stops. The double-acting buffer comprises a series of ports connected to an outlet pipe 44 through a control chamber having a screw adjustable baffle plate for regulating the outflow of liquid from the ports, the liquid returning to the opposite' side of the piston through. one or other of the one-way non-return valves 48. A wiper shaft 76 operated from the buffer lever 58 by a link 74 and crank 75 automatically acts through linkage to register the number of weighings, to empty a sample of the supply liquid into a sampling device container and to deliver a fixed quantity of reagent, e.g. milk of lime, into a receiver tank 12 for the liquid discharged from the weigher. The discharged liquid and reagent may be fed to a funnel 77 having an outlet duct 77a fitted with baffles 77b arranged in a succession of helices of successively opposite hand to mix the liquids, which finally impinge on a liquid deflecting and spreading cone 80 on the base of the receiving tank.
