Abstract
699,206. Trawl nets. SIGURDSSON, J. Feb. 14, 1952 [July 24, 1951], No. 17496/51. Class 48. In a trawl net an apron 20 extends forwardly and downwardly from the base of the net mouth and the front of the apron is attached to an otter plate 22 connected by supplementary bridles 26 to the main towing lines 33. The apron is preferably made of netting and may be an integral part of the net. The otter plate is curved transversely and has downwardly inclined portions 24 on its leading edge. The otter boards 15 for keeping the mouth of the net open laterally consist of flat plates 27 to which are secured plates 28 having large medial corrugations 29 and smaller side corrugations 30. Two triangular frames for the attachment of the main towing lines 33 are pivoted to each flat plate 27, one frame being smaller than the other so that they may be crossed. Lugs are provided on the corrugated plates for the attachment of the supplementary bridles 26 leading to the otter plate and of the main bridles 16 leading to the wings 14 of the net. The struts 17 at the ends of the wings and to which the footrope, the headrope and the main bridles 16 are attached are of cranked form.
