Abstract
The invention comprises fluorene compounds of the general formula <FORM:0699140/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an alkyl radical, and either R1 is hydrogen and R11 is a hydroxyalkyl radical, or <FORM:0699140/IV (b)/2> is a heterocyclic ring; and also the hydrohalide salts of such compounds. In examples: (1) 2-acetylfluorene and ethanolamine in isopropanol are heated with hydrogen in the presence of Raney nickel to yield 2-(11-b -hydroxyethylamino) - ethylfluorene hydrochloride; (2) 2-acetylfluorene, N-formylpiperidine and magnesium chloride hexahydrate are heated together to yield 2-(11-piperidinyl)-ethylfluorene hydrochloride; (3) and (4) 2-(11-morpholinyl)-propylfluorene hydrochloride and 2-(11 - morpholinyl) - butylfluorene hydrochloride are similarly prepared by the method of (2) from N-formylmorpholine and 2-propionylfluorene or 2-butyrylfluorene, respectively.
