698,953. Dashpots. GIRLING, Ltd. Jan. 10, 1952 [Jan. 11, 1961], No. 781/51. Class 108 (iii). In a suspension unit comprising a closed chamber having rigid walls a and elasticallydeformable end-closures d, the chamber is divided (by a partition k) into a main compartment m closed at its ends by the closures d, and a compression space l which is connected with the compartment m by one or more restricted orifices r. The end-closures d are bonded to rings b and to load-carrying or receiving stems d. A non-return valve U is provided for filling the chambers with air or gas under pressure. The chambers are also connected by a spring- loaded one-way valve g. The orifice r is adjustable by means of a needle s. Extension of the unit is limited by a cable w. Compression is limited by engagement of the innermost rubber section j of either closure D with the neck at the respective end of the partition k. The stems d may alternatively terminate in a rubberbushed eye or screwed spigot.
