Abstract
698,769. Mechanical toys, ERNST, M. July 19, 1951, No. 17144/51. Class 132 (iii). A toy motor cycle 2, which stops at predetermined intervals during which stoppage its rider 27 dismounts and mounts, is driven by a spring motor which includes a shaft 3 secured to a cam disc 4 carrying pins 5, 6 and 7. When the ground wheels are stopped by a clutch or the like in known manner, the cam continues to rotate, and the pin 5 engages a double armed lever 10, pivoted at 9. The lever is connected by a spring 18 to a member 16 secured to the handlebars 17, and the lever movement turns the handlebars clockwise in a vertical plane about an axle 15, to lift the rider by its arms 28, 28<SP>1</SP>. Simultaneously, the right leg 31 is moved backwardly, and the pin 7 engages a second double armed lever 11, pivoted at 8. The lever 11 is connected through a spring 49 to a bridge 13 carrying the axle 15, and the handlebars and rider are thereby rotated laterally to position the rider to the side of the cycle. The left leg 32 is secured to a support 46 pivoted on brackets 43. A bracket 20 between the bridge 13 and the front forks causes the turning of the front wheel with the handlebars against the action of a spring 22. The right leg movement is effected through a mechanism within the rider's body, and includes a plate 37, Figs. 4 and 5, secured to an axle 35, to which is rigidly connected the left arm 28<SP>1</SP>. A lug 36 on the plate engages a forked plate 40 having a toothed segment 39 which engages a pinion 30. The latter drives an axle 29 to which is fixed the right leg. On the return movement, the pin 6 engages the lever 10 to raise the rider, and then the pin 7 is released from the lever 11, and a spring 52 swings the rider and handlebars into alignment with the frame. The pin 6 then disengages the lever 10, and the rider is lowered, and the right leg moves to its initial position. Specification 658,367 is referred to.
