Class 59 [Also in Group XXIX] An automatic material - feed - control arrangement for roller mills, comprising a control device disposed in the inlet hopper and influenced by the material supply and a servomtor controlled through the said device and' operated by means of pressure fluid is characterized in that the said control device and the servomotor form a unit disposed in the inlet hopper of the roller mill. A control element 15, adapted to be depressed by grain flowing down a feed shoot to the mill rollers, actuates, through a fluid pressure servomotor 12, carrying the element 15 and mounted in the shoot, and through a linkage 6,<SP>1</SP> 5, a feed gate 3 which controls the feed to grinding rollers 1. The control device may alternatively adjust the rotation of feed rollers 2. The servomotor 12 comprises a piston 17 slidable in a cylinder 16 and carrying an actuating roller 11 at its lower end. In the raised position of the control element 15 compressed air passes from a supply line 14 through a port 22 in the top of the piston 17, through ports 24, 25 in the side of the piston and out to the atmosphere through a bore 26 in the bottom of the piston. The control element 15, when depressed against' the action of an adjustable spring 40, moves, through a link 35, a pin 23 to close the top piston port 22 whereupon the compressed air will begin to move the piston down against the action of a spring 19.
