Abstract

698,014. Cooling discharged materials. KAISER STEEL CORPORATION. Aug. 13, 1951 [Aug. 31, 1950], No. 19007/51. Class 51(ii) Apparatus for cooling heat-treated materials e.g. coke, cement clinker, lime, and particularly sinter discharged from sintering machines, comprises a rotary annular bin C with a cross-section narrowing towards the bottom having an inner retaining wall 57 rising from an annular refractory lined self 60, an outer retaining wall 64 terminating short of the shelf 60, the bin being supported from a centre bearing member D by a structural steel frame 5 comprising spoke-like members B extending radially from the centre of the frame. Each member B consists of upper and lower I-beams 46 and 10 respectively, interconnected by diagonal braces 43, 44 and 45, the beams 10 being attached to a central hub 12 disposed over a ball-bearing on a shaft 34 and the beams 46 connected to circular plates 52 and 53 held together by a locking pin 55. Each brace 43 supports a horizontal arm 48 to which is attached a depending arm 50 extending downwardly and inwardly. A circular steel plate 57 secured to the beams 43 forms the inner wall of the bin and is topped by a circular steel guard 58, another circular steel plate 64 forming the outer wall of the bin. Loss of material from the shelf 60 during rotation of the bin is prevented by a fixed circular side guard 102 disposed around the periphery of said shelf and formed with openings 113 to permit the insertion of adjustably pivoted discharge ploughs 94 each of which is associated with a hopper 99 provided with an outlet opening feeding a belt conveyer. Water spray pipes 140 may be disposed above the bin, which is fed with material to be cooled by a shoot 120. The bin is rotated by three or more driving wheels 68 mounted in cradles 70 and coupled to electric motors 74, a series of idler wheels 76 spring mounted in cradles 78 being disposed between each driving wheel. The wheels 68 and 76 engage a circular track 82 mounted on beams 85 on the underside of the bin. Specification 605,423 is referred to.
