Abstract
697,827. Glass composition. TITAN CO., Inc. Aug. 9, 1951 [Aug. 10, 1950], No. 18820/51. Class 56. A frit composition capable of forming a vitreous enamel which matures between 650‹ C. and 825‹ C. comprises the following weight percentage composition, TiO 2 6-12, P 2 O 5 18-37, Al 2 O 3 19-39, B 2 O 3 , 7-37, alkali oxide 14-23, the sum of the alkali oxide and the P 2 O 5 being between 58 and 85 per cent of the sum of the alkali oxide, P 2 O 5 , and B 2 O 3 ,the Al 2 O 3 being at least 23 per cent if the B 2 O 3 is less than' 22 per cent, the P 2 O 5 being less than 31 per cent if the B 2 O 3 is 22 per cent or more, and the alkali oxide consisting of Na 2 O 20-100 per cent, K 2 O 60-0 per cent, Li 2 O 20-0 per cent. Preferred compositions maturing between 650‹ C. and 725‹ C. comprise the weight percentage composition, TiO 2 6-12, P 2 O 5 18-37, Al 2 O 3 19-36, B 2 O 3 11- 33, alkali oxide 18-23, the sum of the alkali oxide and P 2 O 5 being between 62 and 83 per cent of the sum of the alkali oxide, P 2 O 5 , and B 2 O 3 , the Al 2 O 3 at least 23 per cent if the B 2 O 3 is less than 22 per cent, the P 2 O 5 less than 21 per cent if the B 2 O 3 is. 22 per cent or more, and the alkali oxide consisting of Na 2 O 50-100 per cent, K 2 O 30-0 per cent, Li 2 O 20-0 per cent. The batch composition, method of preparation, and final composition of four examples are given.
