Abstract

To provide protection and electrical insulation for a component, e.g. a toroidal coil, it is dipped into a stirred dispersion in a volatile medium of powdered paper impregnated with a thermoplastic binder and removed to allow the volatile medium to evaporate. The drying is preferably conducted in a ventilated oven, after which further coatings may be applied. In a preferred application the powder is made from acetylated paper impregnated with polystyrene, the preparation of which paper is described in Specification 553,304, [Group IV(b)]. In an example the volatile medium used is trichlorethylene.
