Abstract

In an ampoule syringe having an attached cannula, or fitting to receive a cannula, and a stopper forming a plunger for ejecting the contents, means are provided to prevent the contents from coming into contact with the needle. The means may be a capillary tube, which the liquid cannot pass owing to surface tension, or it may be a valve incorporating a rubber ball. The stopper is of resilient material having a central hole through which the ampoule may be filled in a vacuum chamber, the hole being subsequently closed by a short length of glass rod. The inner face of the stopper is preferably made convex to ensure expulsion of the maximum quantity of the contents and a transverse cut is made across this face to allow draining away of the washing water prior to filling.
