Abstract

696,683. Stays for hinged articles. BIROME SOC. ANON COMERCIAL E INDUSTRIAL. Aug. 19, 1950, No. 20577/50. Class 65 (i) In means for releasably connecting a movable member c to a fixed member b and comprising a pin 3 on one member co-operating with a heartshaped guideway on the other member, the guideway is formed by a heart-shaped aperture having an opening 2 at its base, and a heart-shaped portion 5 disposed asymmetrically within the aperture, whereby to guide the pin, when vertically displaced into said opening, around the guideway in one direction to a retaining notch 12, and, when vertically displaced from the notch, to guide the pin in the same direction back to the opening. The pin is constituted by a roller mounted at the free end of an arm 18 pivoted at its other end to the member c, which may be the lid of a box or an automobile hood, the arm being biased to the vertical position by a pair of light springs 21. The guideway is formed in a plate 1 fixed to the member b, the opening being offset from the lowermost cusp 4 of the central portion, whereby the pin is directed into the left-hand branch 7 of the guideway. The upper left-hand cusp 10 of the central portion is offset from the upper left-hand cusp 9 of the aperture, whereby the pin on being lowered from the latter travels along the upper edge 11 of the central portion till it lodges in the notch 12. The latter being offset from the middle cusp 13 of the aperture, the pin on being raised therefrom travels along the right-hand flank 14 of cusp 13 till it reaches the upper right-hand cusp 15 of the aperture which is offset from the upper righthand cusp 16 of the central portion, whereby the pin on being lowered travels along the right-hand branch 17 of the guideway to the opening 2.
