696,156. Ventilating shaft tops; valves for ventilators. KEITH, BLACKMAN, Ltd., and BLAKE, J. E. T. April 22, 1952. [April 27, 1951], No. 9888/51. Classes 25 and 137 [Also in Groups II and XXVI] A cowling unit for applying to a ventilating fan, roof ventilator, duct terminal, or the outlet of a cyclone dust settler incorporates, a cowl member 7 supported by a plurality of plungers 3 which are movable endwise relative to a frame 6 and form cam followers engageable by the cam surface 10 of a rotatable ring 1. As shown applied to a cowling unit incorporating an axial flow type fan 13 driven by motor 12, three spring pressed plungers 3 are provided parallel to the axis of the motor 12 and movable in bosses 3' integral with frame 6. The rotation of'ring 1 is limited by lugs 8, which may have operating cords attached thereto, engaging stops 4 on a retaining ring 2. The unit is clamped in an aperture of panel 9 by peripheral flanges 2<SP>1</SP> 6<SP>1</SP> of ring 2 and frame 6 respectively, rubber or like gaskets 5 being interposed. The cowl member 7 may be provided with a sealing :gasket (not shown).
