696,116. Hand tool for repairing turf. COLE, J. J. Dec. 17, 1951 [July 26, 1951], No. 29434/51. Class 6(ii) A hand tool, with spikes for penetrating the turf on golf greens to effect repairs, has the spikes provided on a pair of blocks mounted on pivotal arms; the blocks, after penetration of the spikes, being moved laterally by the handle device to cause the spikes to loosen and raise the turf. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the blocks 9 with spikes 11 are connected to arms 1, 2 pivoted together scissors fashion for operation by handles 4. The spikes 11 are pushed into the turf at a depression or like place of damage and the handles operated to move the spikes laterally. Fig. 4 shows the spikes carried by arms 18 pivoted at 21 to a hood 17 at the lower end of a tube 16 fitted at the upper end with a handle 27, Fig. 5. The arms are connected by toggle links 22 operated by a rod 25 connected to a gripping lever 41 on the handle 27.
