Abstract

695,888. Endless conveyers; charging skips; shoots and hoppers. SKIP COMPAGNIE GES. Oct. 27, 1950. [Oct. 27, 1949] No. 26311/50. Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iv). In a filling plant for skip conveyer installations there is provided between the material inlet and the skip, as measuring and charging means, a link type belt conveyer having above the upper run of the belt side checks which are sub-divided depthwise thereof into a movable lower portion supported by the links of the conveyer belt and movable therewith in its operative direction of movement and a relatively stationary upper portion adjoining the lower portion. In the' charging plant shown the material e.g. coal is transferred from tipplers or other means to the charging conveyer which consists of slats 1 articulated together bv means of spindles on which are mounted rollers 2 so as to form an endless member which runs on tracks 4 in a frame 5. The slats have upturned flanges 1a which travel on the outside of fixed side walls 6. Side walls 6 are provided with vertically adjustable extensions 6a which overlap the flanges 1a as shown. Slats 1 have convex upper surfaces, Fig. 2, for engaging the material. In operation, the material is carried along between walls 6 at a depth slightly greater than the width of the conveyer and by adjustment of the extensions 6a of walls 6 the flow rate of the material can be adjusted. Thus the conveyer speed remains constant and extensions 6a are adjusted to suit the material. A push plate conveyer consisting of scrapers 9 moved by cable chains 8 along a surface 10 is positioned below the slat conveyer to receive fine material filtering through, both conveyers discharging into a shoot I 1 feeding directly into the skip 14. Shoot 11 consists of a sloping surface 11a and side walls 11b and during filling is projected over the edge of the skip by a fluid pressure motor 15, being retracted by the motor 15 after filling and prior to hoisting of the skip. the slat conveyer may be mounted together with its driving motor on a longitudinally movable carriage 16, Fig. 4, so that after filling this conveyer may be retracted to the position shown and then stopped while stray material is conveyed away by the scraper conveyer which in this case, as shown at 21, extends under the slat conveyer in all positions of the latter and is run continuously. In a double skip hoist a single slat conveyer may be used by providing means for moving its discharge end together with that end of the walls 6 to one side or the other. In the case of the longitudinally movable conveyer, this could be run on cross-over rails having automatic points for positioning the conveyer adjacent one or the other skip alternately as it is moved forward and retracted. Alternatively two sets of conveyers are mounted in a common frame 35, Fig. 5, the conveyers in each half being mounted in the same way as in Fig. 1. In a further form a single stationary set of conveyers as in Fig. 1 is adapted to feed two skips by means of a two-way shoot 54, Fig. 7, two pivoted vertical flaps 55, 56 being provided each of which is independently operable by a fluid pressure motor 57 or 58. By suitably operating the flaps one or other of the outlets 54a, 54b is closed, or when no skip is present at either outlet both the outlets may be closed, the upper part 54c of the shoot then acting as a reservoir for accumulating material delivered by the scrapers 9 or by the slat conveyer moving at its slow speed, during the idle period.
