Abstract
695,427. Treating fractures. RUSH, L. V. Oct. 16, 1951, No. 24079/51. Class 81 (ii). A fracture fixing pin 10 comprises a smooth, flexible rod of circular cross - section having a point 18 adjacent to which is a curved guiding race 16 which, when the pin 10 is driven into a medullary canal c at an angle to its axis, is eugageable with the cortex b at the side remote from the point of entry to deflect the point 18 so that it does not penetrate the cortex b. The pin 10 of corrosion-resistant stainless steel is slightly curved along its length and the end opposite to the point 18 is provided with a hook 12 and obtuse point 14 which engages with the exterior of the bone when the pin 10 is in place. Pins 10 may be stored' and sterilised in racks each comprising a plate 21 having flanges 22, 23 with holes 24, 25 which hold pins 10 of different lengths. Pins 10 are made of different lengths and diameters.
