Abstract

A wrapper of polythene film is closed by twisting the open end or ends thereof and applying to the twisted portion or portions of the film, by directing a hot gas or vapour thereon, heat sufficient to set the film in the twisted condition but insufficient to cause the inner surfaces of the film to become appreciably welded together. The gas or vapour, preferably air, nitrogen or steam, may be applied as a band-shaped jet perpendicular to the axis of the twisted portion, and in an example air at a temperature of 120 DEG C. and pressure of 50 lbs./square inch is supplied through pin-hole jets.
